Crook Town AFC vs Esh Winning

Crook Rue Missed Chances

Crook Town crashed out of this seasons FA Vase at the first hurdle after conceding a last minute winner to Esh Winning on Saturday.

Crook started the game very well and got on top of their opponents and even took an early lead after a cross from Malloy was met with a header by Hughes who put the ball in to the back of the Esh Winning net but a series of missed chances ultimately cost Crook the game. Malloy was put through one on one but his tame shot missed the target. Another chance fell to the same player but he dwelled too long on the ball allowing the Esh defenders to close him out. Crook were then awarded a penalty when Whitfield was brought down in the box. Peter Brown stepped up but put his spot kick straight down the middle giving the Esh keeper and easy save. Brown had another opportunity when he was put through in the box but his shot was off target. In a very rare excursion in to the Crook half, Esh equalized when a player was left unmarked from a long ball and he finished down to Harrisons left to send the teams in 1-1 at half time.

The second half was much the same as the first with Crook starting the stronger but again missing a series of chances. Esh came more in to the game and started to create a couple of chances of their own but nothing really troubled Harrison in the Crook goal. Then came the moment that changed the game. A through ball by Cummings played in Smith who’s cross was misjudged by the keeper with the ball falling to Peter Brown who capped off a nightmare day by putting the ball over the bar from three yards out with an open goal.

Esh then went straight up the other end and in a goal mouth scramble, the ball fell to left back Robinson who cooly slotted the ball into the right hand corner of the net to give Esh and unlikely victory and the possibility of a bumper payout in the next round with the visit of high flying South Shields FC.

Crook Manager Colin Myers Commented “I just don’t know how we lost that game! We should have been 5-0 up at half time with the missed chances and missed penalty and the open goal we missed late in the game it just was not our day!”
