Crook Town AFC vs Esh Winning

A welcome win
Before the game a minutes silence was observed in tribute to Northern League stalwart Jackie Foster.
This welcome win goes a little way in repairing the hole in the dam with a fighting display, the second half could have had a flood of goals for the home side with excellent wing play by Steven Malloy and Daniel Smith.
A pretty even twenty five minutes, Crook using their wide players to good advantage but the first real threat on goal came to Esh when a through ball was slipped passed Niall Harrison, Iain Maddison beating Ryan Burton to the ball. This started a hectic ten minute spell of goalmouth incident. Twenty seven minutes, Β Maddison strolled forward, a cross into the box, a Lewis Martin header glancing off Philip Hays shoulder giving Mark Hodgson no chance, 1-0, seconds later Maddison was in the thick of the action defending but his slip on the greasy surface led to the equalizer giving Β Burton a chance to slot his shot home. A minute later, Smith mesmerized the Esh defence, his cross was met by Martin’s Β thunderous left foot shot giving Hodgson no chance from twelve Β yards. Two minutes later a left wing corner, a glancing header from Maddison, 3-1 to the home side. Esh made the last minutes a little uneasy but the break arrived with a healthy lead.
The second half was run by the Crook mid field giving Malloy and Smith licence to give the Esh defence a torrid time, the ball rarely out of their half, the home side finding it difficult to break down a stubborn Esh defence. Smith, who had an excellent game, made yet another run down the left, his cross met by Peter Brown who’s well placed header found the corner of the net. Harrison, who had an easy afternoon made his only save of the half diving to his right to safely hold on to a shot. A Wayne Whitfield pass found Conner Hughes who beat two defenders, his rising shot from six yards hit the bar.
After the game Crook Town Manager Colin Myers commented ” much better today! we are starting to build up a little momentum as things are starting to settle down. I was very pleased with todays result although there are still massive improvements to be made to the overall performance”
Verdict. A good all round performance
